Description\Duties

  • Check incoming product for quality and other food safety parameters
  • Identify quality & condition of raw material and finished product including inspections of fish during processing, product sampling for lab/sensory tests, glaze tests/net weight tests and drain weight in roe season
  • Supplier verification and approval program and ensure company is up-to- date
  • Verify paper work on a real time basis which includes activities like but not limited to ensuring completion of lot tracking, verifying CCP labels, ensuring blade checks are done
  • Verify completed paperwork daily; perform label verification audits and traceability exercise
  • Responsible for pre-operational and/or operational inspections including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), hygiene, temperatures checks
  • Ensure scales, thermometers, lighting are as per the set standards
  • Ensure the product meets customer specifications and quality standards
  • Alerts appropriate staff of questionable product quality in a timely manner
  • Review and update product specifications and send out supplier questionnaires
  • Actively involved in training (annual Food Safety refresher, HACCP, MSC and GMP for employees
  • Actively engaged in maintaining Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP for the facility) and Sanitation Program
  • Create data entry and assist with other items for management review
  • Support other quality and food safety functions by acting as backup to various roles and participating in other duties as required
  • Customers’ product quality checks
  • Documentation training, documentation checks and CCP verification

Qualifications  

  • Diploma degree in Food Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of food-safety/ quality related experience
  • HACCP and GMP trained will be an asset
  • PCQI-trained an asset
  • Previous experience in fish/ seafood industry will be an added advantage
  • Strong knowledge of current regulatory requirements (CFIA required, FDA/USDA preferred)
  • Strong skills in planning and organization, leadership, communication, problem solving, decision-making, and teamwork. Must be detail-oriented, assertive, and proactive thinker

Salary: $20-$22 per hour

Hours of Work: Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00 am until 4:00pm (+/-), Additional hours as required during peak season.
